This is the BEST bird book I have ever used....because it is specific to the birds found in Illinois. Great reference material!

Summary: "So easy to use!"

This is a great book! When you're birdwatching, sometimes you have only a very brief time to view the bird & identify it (before it flies away)- so you need a book that you can use quickly. This book is organized by the bird's color - just flip to the section marked in that color, and then narrow down the search by the bird's size. Each section starts with the smallest bird of that color and ends with the largest. Birds with large color differences between male/females are listed separately in the appropriate color section. If there are several birds that are often mistaken for one another, the book notes that as well - and tells you what features to look for to distinguish them. It only lists birds found in Illinois, so there's no extraneous information to sort through. I've been able to identify every bird at my feeder using this guide so far! I love the checklist at the end of the book - I use it to keep track of the birds I've seen in my yard.

Summary: "Best bird book around, perfect for beginners"

This book is fantastic for new bird watchers. I have a copy in my house, one in my car and have given several as gifts! The book is organized by the color of the bird so you don't have to guess where to start. Find a bird, if it has color on it turn to the appropriate pages and identify your bird. Most of the common birds are featured and the pictures are great!

Super book to take in the field with you. Organized by color to make it very handy. The photos are beautiful and large. I know that Illinois is a big state but it was amazing how many native birds there are. If you love watching birds - this is a must buy.

Summary: "the BEST field guide for Illinois birds! love all his field guides!"

I love this book! So easy to use! You can find the bird you see easily (by color), and Stan gives you exactly the tip you need to tell which bird it is! Plus interesting facts about each bird, and where you are likely to see them, and what they are likely to be doing. And beautiful, clear photos! This is the first of his field guides that I ever bought. I bought several others. I love them all! His field guides really work!
